My View

My work explores the essence of objects in the observed world. I work from nature and my images are about revealing what is strictly necessary, the essentials, by visually transforming objects found in the natural world. The sculptural beauty, structure and materiality of natural objects provides an endless source of inspiration.

The issue of space is an important element in my work; the modeling of emptiness, building up a personal visual language. Images of naturally occuring complex structures are portrayed as over-sized, simplified iconic graphics combining naturalistic and abstract elements allowing for individual interpretation.

Presently working with trees and seed pods as subject, carving images into woodblocks, drawing onto metal matrixes and printing on paper, provides an opportunity to explore the uniqueness of the object.

By removing my work from an everyday scale my aim is to connect more closely with the environment. I also aim to encourage anyone viewing my work to disconnect from the everyday and experience a more personal involvement with the subjects I portray.
